Aged Care in the Home
Mediserve Care understands the dilemma people face when confronted with the potential of residential aged care. Perhaps there has been a serious health event and the person may no longer be able to live independently in their own home. Compounding this stress, they are confronted with the complexities of residential aged care.
Residential aged care costs are complicated. A basic daily fee has to be paid (currently $50.66 per day), which is set at 85% of the basic single aged pension. In addition, a means-tested care fee may apply. If personal circumstances permit, the government may ask the person to contribute further to their cost of care. There may be costs for optional extras such as Foxtel and higher quality meals and services.
People are usually also asked to pay a bond or accommodation payment, which for many people, requires selling the family home.
It can be a very distressing and emotional time. If there is a spouse at home, they don’t want to have to move and leave their home.
